Intrecci

Intrecci began with a childhood memory from Sardinia, watching my mother and grandmother weave traditional baskets. Years later, while travelling in the United States, I encountered a Navajo basket whose structure and spiral construction felt unexpectedly familiar.

That resemblance led me to explore weaving traditions from distant cultures and the connections that can emerge between them. The circular sculpture is divided into six sections, each inspired by a different tradition: Sardinia, Africa, Native America, Japan, Ireland and Hawaii. Where the sections meet, their patterns gradually merge into one another.

The spiral moving outward from the centre also became a metaphor for human life: the centre as a point of origin, and the expanding weave as an individual journey shaped by relationships, encounters and obstacles.

Through Intrecci, weaving becomes a metaphor for the connections we create throughout our lives — and for the unexpected threads that can unite people and cultures across great distances.
